2017 Garden Party & Home Tour
PASS CHRISTIAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY PREPARES TO WELCOME VISITORS TO 39 TH ANNUAL HOME TOUR AND GARDEN PARTY
910 West Beach
March 6, 2017, Pass Christian, MS – The impressive West Beach family compound of New Orleanians Danny and Mary Clark Conwill will welcome visitors to this year’s Home Tour and Garden Party sponsored by the Pass Christian Historical Society on Sunday, May 7, 2-5pm.
The pair of Greek Revival homes in the compound (one of which will be on tour) are the work of noted New Orleans architect Barry Fox. They were built shortly before Hurricane Katrina and were seriously damaged. The main house is closer to the front of the property and has a wider façade and five levels of habitable space. It appears to be the larger home of the two, but due to Mr. Fox’s design, the second house is actually about 10 percent larger.
The elegant property at 910 West Beach holds a number of old live oak trees within the 13 acres overlooking the Gulf. The grounds and tiered formal gardens are the work of landscape architect Rene’ J.L. Fransen, also of New Orleans. During the afternoon, a croquet match played by Historical Society members will add to the ambiance. Light refreshments including canapes, wine and tea will be offered.
Advance tickets are $30 and are available:
* online through midnight May 6;
* at the Cat Island Coffee House/Pass Christian Books (300 East Scenic); and
* at the Pass Christian Yacht Club on the day of the tour from 11 am. To 2 p.m. (cash or check only).
Beginning at 2 p.m. that Sunday, tickets may only be purchased at the door for $35.
The Pass Christian Historical Society's aim is to preserve and share the history of Pass Christian and the Gulf Coast. This event is core to that mission, and it is also our largest fundraiser, helping us maintain our operations all year.
