2012 Garden Party & Home Tour
PASS CHRISTIAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY WELCOMES VISITORS TO EXCEPTIONAL HOME TOUR AND GARDEN PARTY SUNDAY, MAY 6
Scenic Drive home is painstaking reconstruction of historic home rebuilt to Category 5 hurricane standards
The Pass Christian Historical Society is pleased to announce that the home of Jeanne Hines McDaniel and James McDaniel (519 East Scenic Drive) will be the site of this year’s home tour and garden party on Sunday, May 6. The newly completed 10,000-sq. ft. home, guest house, pavilion, patio and gardens will be open to the public from 2 to 5 p.m. that day.
The original home was built of wood in 1895 and withstood many storms until Katrina, when major damages called for the home to be torn down. For more than three years, Jeannie Hines McDaniel has worked with architect Stephen Chauvin of Chauvin Arkhitekton to create a reconstruction that is authentic in feel to the original home, but also stronger and better. The new home, constructed of cement and steel, has been rebuilt to Category 5 hurricane standards.
Mrs. McDaniel’s son Bennie Hines, owner of Decorum Inc. in New Orleans, is the interior designer. Guests will have the opportunity to see the numerous unique touches in the interior of this outstanding home. Among many items of interest are custom-made wallpaper, French country bookshelves, heart pine wood floors that came from Mrs. McDaniel’s daughter-in-law’s grandfather’s pre-Civil War barns, and enamel-on-glass made in England. PCHS docents will be located in each room to point out and discuss the furnishings and decorative details.
The party atmosphere will be enhanced with music, tea and refreshments. Tickets are $25 per person, payable in advance and for PCHS members, or $30 at the door.
For more information and to purchase tickets in advance, please contact the Pass Christian Historical Society at 228-452-7254 or email@example.com.
